Byzantinologist Paul Magdalino visited Stavropoleos
In Bucharest in order to attend the Conference of the Romanian Society for Byzantine Studies, the renowned historian Paul Magdalino visited Stavropoleos Monastery, at the invitation of the Romanian byzantinologist Petre Guran. Professor of Byzantine History at the University of St Andrews and at Koç University (Istanbul), author of numerous volumes and studies regarding medieval Byzantium, Paul Magdalino appreciated the collection of art objects and the manner in which the post-Byzantine heritage from Stavropoleos is preserved and presented. Paul Magdalino was accompanied by his wife, herself a specialist in post-Byzantine art, interested in the Romanian icon from the 16th – 18th centuries.
