Patron Saints
From the very beginning, Stavropoleos Monastery was dedicated to Saint Archangels Michael and Gabriel (November 8) and to Saint Hierarch Athanasius the Great, Archbishop of Alexandria (January 18). Then the monastery took also the patron saint of a chapel in the vicinity, demolished in the nineteenth century: Saint Martyr Charalambos (February 10). At the reopening of the monastery in 2008, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel ordained a new patron, Saint Martyr Justin the Philosopher (June 1st). Patron Saints’ Feast Days are wonderful occasions of great joy both for monastic community and for the worshipers.
